Save the Date! Savers FUN'draiser

Posted by Chris Lovelock at Aug 11, 2021 1:24PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Our Cheerleading Program has teamed up with Savers Thrift Store! We are so excited to introduce this new fundraiser into our program. The main goal of this fundraiser is for each athlete to bring in bags of donatable clothing items – that’s it! Savers will pay our team by the pound for the total amount of clothing we bring in. There is no limit on how many bags to bring – however, Savers would like for us to have a goal to bring in at least 100 bags. For reference, x150 Tall Kitchen Bags (avg. 14 lbs.) = roughly $500 raised! Our goal for the 2021-2022 Cheer Season is to raise $700 for our program – however, most Cheerleading Teams raise about $1500. That’s a lot of potential funds to have an amazing season! We are hoping this fundraiser can help provide both our Sideline Cheer and Competition Program with new personalized duffle bags, team bonding opportunities (team movie night at the theaters, group yoga, funding for food/snacks at games and practice, gifts for lil/big sis, mat cleaning, and have an amazing end of season banquet!)

During these next 4 weeks, please begin to collect gently used clothing. Please note that clothing items must be clean and have no rips/tears, stains, etc. If it smells or looks dirty, please don’t include it! Clothing items must be collected into Tall Kitchen Bags (avg. 14 lbs.). Each athlete will be expected to donate at least 2 Tall Kitchen Bags. You are also welcome to use the larger, black kitchen bags. Feel free to also reach out to family, friends & neighbors to help you collect bags! Attached is a flyer you may post on social media or send to your friends/family to help get the word out! Please write the athlete’s name large on each bag you bring so Coaches can keep track of who has donated. Savers have requested from us to keep a good count of how many bags we are collecting so the store can be prepared for our drop-off date – writing names on the bags will help us coaches/volunteers keep track.

Some other additional examples of ‘Soft Goods’ included in your kitchen bags means all clothing, shoes, accessories and bed and bath items, including clothing (men’s, women’s, children’s), clothing accessories (hats, mittens, scarves, ties, nylons, socks, underwear), personal accessories (purses, wallets, fanny packs, bags), bed and bath (towels, sheets, blankets, pillows, curtains, tablecloths), shoes (all types) and other cloth materials. Please refer to the ‘Do Not Accept List’ attached for additional details.

Volunteers:
We will need a lot of help from parents for this fundraiser. Specifically, anyone who may have access to some sort of trailer or big truck. A few days before our drop-off date, we will collect all of the bags we have and load them up into a trailer, trucks etc. Savers has offered us a reimbursement of a flat rate of $75 for a UHaul. The only catch is that we need to reach a threshold by 2,000lbs, which is 142 bags. If possible, we’d like to avoid using a UHaul, but the option is there. I have access to a couple of small trailers and one large truck. If athletes successfully collect 2-4 bags each, that is a total of 300 bags – therefore, the more help with larger trucks/trailers the better! We will also need a couple families to donate some space in their garage/home to begin reconciling all of the bags a few days before the drop-off date. If you are interested in volunteering or have any additional ideas to help this fundraiser run smoothly, please email us ASAP!

I think that’s it! This is a new fundraiser and we are extremely hopeful it can remain a staple for us throughout the next several seasons. Us Coaches completely understand that Cheerleading is an extremely financially heavy sport, and want to help you all cut down costs as much as possible. Raising funds for our program consistently every year will help build up our Boosters account to cut down costs and also provide us with an extra ‘cushion’ to have a fun and memorable cheer season. As a reminder, all athletes are required to participate in all fundraisers. If for any reason you cannot participate in this fundraiser, please email us directly.

You may begin collecting items and putting together your bags right away! We will send out more information as we get closer to our drop-off date, which is Saturday, September 11th at 11:00am. We will also send out a few updates along the way to check in on our progress.

Best,
AVHS Cheer Coaches

To make sure we are all staying safe and healthy leading up to the first week of school and into the football season, please make sure to come to practice with your mask on. Of course, please do not come to practice if you have a fever and/or you are not feeling well. If you wake up sick, please text/call your coach before practice begins.

During this time off, athletes should of been reviewing the sideline cheers here:
“Sideline Cheers”:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulDGlTSuhTs&list=LL&index=6&t=3s

Our Varsity Captains also made a video of our sideline dances here:
“Sideline Dances”:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSRvEx8CvhY
(this was also sent from your coaches into your team group chats this past weekend)

Sideline Outerwear
As we ramp up for football season, we will be ordering outerwear for the colder games. This is the same sherpa sweater + rain jacket that we ordered last season from Champion, so only new athletes will need to order. These items are mandatory.

The 2 items can be purchased at the below link, which will close this Friday, Aug. 6:

*If you know any former cheerleaders, you can see if they would be willing to sell these items

Additionally, each athlete will need to purchase a pair of plain black flared leggings (no zippers, buttons, mesh, etc.). Please see below for an example, and text your coach if you have questions:

Looking forward to seeing everyone again and to get working on some halftimes for the season! :)

Hello All!

At this time, we have been advised by AVHS Admin to keep our practices on hold until we hear anything further. Please see below on practice details and an updated calendar as practices have been added and we’ve been given a final football schedule. Once we receive the ‘thumbs up’ from Admin to practice, we will continue to follow the regular practice schedule as seen on the calendar. Athletes – please make sure you are checking in with your coaches regularly in the group chats for practice updates as well as your emails.

PRACTICES:

July 26th – July 30th
Practice on 7/27 and 7/29
CANCELLED UNTIL WE HEAR BACK FROM AVHS ADMIN FOR QUARANTINE GUIDANCE

Week of August 2nd – August 6th
PRACTICES ADDED TO THE SCHEDULE (if we get clearance to do so)
8/3 9:00am-11:00am
8/5 9:00am – 11:00am

Week of August 9th – August 13th
Practice on 8/9 9:00am – 11:00am (VARSITY ONLY)
Freshman Orientation Performance on 8/10 8:00am – 1:00pm (VARSITY ONLY)
Practice on 8/10 9:00am – 10:30am (JV ONLY)

We will return for our normal practice schedule of Tues/Thurs from 4:00-6:00pm in the AVHS Quad starting on Thursday, August 12th.

Practice Wear:
We will rotate practice wear to make sure both our Competition Team & Sideline are getting to wear all practice clothes that were purchased. Please look at the attached calendar .pdf to note which practices clothes to wear at each practice – they’re written in purple. The first step in being a great cheerleader is to follow instructions – therefore, if you do not show up in the correct practice clothes, you and your team will condition at the beginning of practice. We suggest that all athletes save the calendar on their phones to make sure they are up to date with practice times and clothes.

MASKS/FOOTBALL GAMES:

Mask Updates:
Although we know that many of our athletes and our coaches are vaccinated, we feel it is best that we all continue to wear our masks for the entirety of all practices until we hear otherwise from AVHS Administration. Please make sure your athlete comes to practice with their mask on – if you do not come to practice with your mask on, you will not be able to participate. We understand it’s hot and can be uncomfortable, but we want to make sure everyone remains healthy so we can continue to work towards a normal football season :)

Football Schedule:
Some additional football games have been added to our schedule. Please see below for our 4 most important home games:

First Game/Aloha Rally:
Freshman 8/19 vs. James Logan
JV & Varsity 8/20 vs. James Logan
Pigskin:
9/24 vs. Foothill
Homecoming:
10/15 vs. Monte Vista
Senior Night:
11/5 vs. Cal High

Our last game and Senior Night is scheduled for November 5th. If AVHS Varsity Football makes NCS – we will not continue to practice, but only show up to their games since we won’t be performing any halftimes. These games will either be on Fridays or Saturdays. Please be flexible with your schedule until we hear about any updates regarding the NCS Game schedule later in the season (VARSITY ONLY)

Program Photos SAVE THE DATE!: Wednesday, August 18th at 4:00pm

Again, once we hear about any updates regarding next steps of when we can practice we will make sure to email you all right away. In the meantime, please make sure athletes are regularly practicing the sideline cheers here:
