San Ramon Valley G Soccer Outlasts the storm

Posted by AVHS Girls Soccer- VARSITY on Jan 16 2019 at 04:54PM PST in 2018-2019

The San Ramon Valley and AVHS Girls Soccer teams consistently worked thru the storm, sleeting rain, winds and their gusts, to the very end- with virtually no rest from the elements.
The night game was light in attendance tho spirited AVHS’ers cheered on their players. San Ramon Valley was quick to come out and pressure quickly, gaining a corner kick. San Ramon captured the opportunity in the AVHS end and scored quickly making it 1-0 at the 32 minute of the game.
Play continued with AVHS looking confidant with team play, passing balls and control, though SRV pressured and held the ball, attacking methodically time after time, until AV made some defensive errors and the opponent scored with 10 minutes remaining- and then at the 7 minute mark! The score would be 3-0 by halftime. But between those defining goals , AVHS had moments when we secured the ball, and got crosses off, and shots on goal, yet SRV keeper kept them in play and opponents seemed unraveled by the attacks. WE couldn’t shake them. AVHS players tried to string passes together consistently but one would go awry to start SRV off again in control!
Throughout this game, although SRV made efforts and capitalized, our goalkeepers held & had 7 shots/saves in the first half, several that were destined to the net. In the 2nd half, SRV players came out with less zest and intensity, and their shooting/attacking slowed, which decreased the total of AVHS keeper activity to 4. A few of those were tough saves to make in the driving rain- a bright spot in this dismal RAIN.
Second half was just as many back and forth possessions as the 1st, and although it seemed that SRV had "won " the first half with their capitalizing on errors, the second half was up for grabs. AVHS kept playing. In fact, right until the very end when shots on goal to SRV net may have been fruitful with 16 minutes left, then another at 9 minutes to go, and yet one more at the 8th minute mark. It would not be; the 3-0 1st half score would remain. Next up is Monte Vista, Thursday night at MV.
