Girls' Team Times Updated

Posted by Cross Country at Sep 16, 2017 11:43PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

There have been 2 revisions to the girls’ team time lists at Newhall Park after today’s Nike Inviational. One revision is to the 3 mile list and one is to the girls’ team time list.

The varsity girls adjusted the 3 mile list as the team of Juliette Fletcher, Becky Laurence, Derica Su, Surabhi Kumar, and Ashley Baudin combined for a time of 1:38:44. That time comes in at #5 on the all-time list. The group was good enough to finish 3rd today behind the teams ranked #1 and #2 in Northern California (Granada and Campolindo) and behind the teams ranked #3 and #8 in Northern California (San Ramon Valley and Monte Vista). In the JV race, the team of Vicky Vega, Rachel Dentler, Sara Sanguinetti, Alyssa Samuli, and Alisa Matsoyan combined to run 1:17:12, which comes in at #10 on the all-time list for the 2 mile course.

No longer qualifying for the all-time lists are the teams of Candace Miles-Threatt, Monica Van Wegen, Crystal Miles-Threatt, Tina Peterson, and Elizabeth Maier who ran a time of 1:24:42.. That legendary group ran that time at the NCS Championships and used the time to qualifiy for state in 1995. 3 of the members of that team are part of Amador Valley’s great 4×800 relay record team that was ranked very well on the national level. Also, the team of Maddy Hanson, Kourtnie Sicam, Emma Wicks, Sarah Wadsworth, and Cassie Sigua ran a time of 1:17:20 on the 2 mile course in 2010 at the Nike Invitational. That group was outdone by just 8 seconds in the JV race today.

Boys' Team Times Updated

Posted by Cross Country at Sep 16, 2017 11:12PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

We had updates to the boys’ team time lists for both the 2 mile and 3 mile course at Newhall Park today. First, the varsity boys’ team of Aidan Boyle, Jack Gray, Aidan McCarthy, Jacob Lawrence, and Hayden Talbert ran a combined time of 1:23:17 to record the #6 time ever by an Amador Valley team on that course. Then, the frosh soph boys’ team of Euan Hpuston, Vijay Sithambaram, Max Jorgenson, Ehan Shah, and Ryan Haley went on in the frsoh/soph race to run the #8 time all-time on the 2 mile course. The 5 man group combined to run a time of 1:00:49, which is an average of about 12:10 per runner. It is impressive every time a group of frosh/soph runners records a top 10 time on the 3200m course, but this may be even more so as 3 sophomores were running the varsity race. A result like this is a sign of very promising results in the future.

No longer qualifying for the all-time lists is the team of Seth Girvan, Brett Walsh, Dylan Dantzig, Scott Lee, and Ian Stallins who ran a time of 1:01:29 in 2012. That group was also a very promising group that ran in the frosh/soph race.

Updated Top 10 Lists

Posted by Cross Country at Sep 16, 2017 11:02PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We had 3 updates to the Top 10 lists at today’s Nike Invitational at Newhall Park. On the girls’ side, Juliette Fletcher debuted on the list at #8 running a time of 19:06. Her time was good enough for 13th in the race.

On the boys’ side, Aidan Boyle ran 16:09 on the day to debut in the #8 spot on the list. Jack Gray ran 16:12 to debut on the list at #10. No longer qualifying for the list Is Kellen Cole and Ryan Freeman, who each ran 16:14 at the Newhall Park. Kellen did so at the Nike Invite in 2008 and when Ryan did so it was called the Adidas Invite and it was in 1995. Ryan was best known as an 800m runner and a very tough runner. At one time, when Amador needed some points in a dual meet in track, he volunteered to run the 300m hurdles because he thought he could do well. He not only temporarily grabbed a few points, but also won the race. but also ran an all-time mark. I say temporarily because after finishing, he turned around in his lane, and after winning screamed, “That was the easiest thing I’ve ever done.” Except when he said it, there were a few choice words involved. He was never allowed to run the 300m hurdles again, or at least that is the story I have heard. In addition to those too, James Raynel was also eliminated from the top 10 list. He ran a time of 16:13 at the Nike Invite in 2008. James was an elite triathlete who tried to run cross country a few times. Unfortunately for him and us, it never worked out great, because he was peaking for triathlon in August and we could never figure out a good way for him to peak again in November. But in 2008, he ran some really good races for us in September.

Restaurant Walk

Posted by Coach Ozzie at Sep 13, 2017 7:05PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The annual downtown restaurant walk is on Tuesday, September 26th. This has been a lucrative, yet low-key fundraiser for us in previous years. Although it does not meet our entire fundraising needs, we have been able to raise nearly $500 in the past for the program by walking around Main Street and eating food. This event is for adults only. Tickets are $25.

The flier is attached with all of the participating restaurants and businesses. If you are interested in tickets, contact Louann McKinnon at hairsass@gmail.com or at (925( 963-8497.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your participation and have fun at the event.
