News and Announcements

10:10 AM
Hi Varsity Families,

We were not able to change the date of our Marin Catholic game this year and didn’t want to cancel all together. The game will remain on Saturday, 4/21 which is the same day as the Girls Lacrosse National Team Tryouts. We have changed the time of the game and Varsity will now play at 10:30am instead of 12:00pm.

Hopefully this helps those of you that want to tryout for the National Team this year. If you would like to tryout, you can let me know and I can email Juliet letting her know you may be a little late because you will be coming from our game.

Thank you!

We NEED Drivers for Away Games!
As previously mentioned, we cannot afford to take a bus to every away game and need parent drivers to volunteer to drive our players to and from away games. Our first away game is coming up soon and we need parent driver help.

Please complete the Volunteer & Driving Clearance Forms ASAP!

Travel Policy Reminder:
When we carpool to “semi close” away games, all players are responsible for traveling to the game in the carpool. Our Driving Coordinator (Kristina Young) will send out the carpool assignments the week before the game. After the game, players can choose to drive back in the carpool OR drive home with their own parent.

When we take a bus to a “father” away games (Davis 3/20, St. Ignatius 4/10, Sacred Heart Prep 4/20), ALL players must ride to and from games on the bus.

Athletic Registration Fee:
Girls Lacrosse Athletic Registration participation is ONLY at 44%. This creates a deficit of $7,000 to make up from our own budget. If you have not paid, PLEASE pay the Athletic Registration of $350.

You can pay at the school activity desk via check, pay Steve or Mannie Nimmo at a game via credit card, or pay online HERE!

Please help us get this number above 90%!!! If you are having trouble affording the Athletic Registration, we have scholarships available so please let me know!

Master Roster Updates:
We have had some more changes to the master roster and also had someone leave the Varsity team. I have attached an updated version of our rosters with contact info. Please use this sheet going forward.

Looking forward to another great week. Please reach out if you have any questions. Thank you and GO DONS!

Amador faced off against a red hot Redwood team that has claimed 3 games in a row with large margins. The opening draw saw Mayo take quick control for the Dons. Clark came out of the gates scorching with two back to back goals. Then it was freshman, Johnson with a sneaky drift into the center being rewarded with a pass from X for a goal. French was very active on the defensive side claiming multiple ground balls. Mayo followed with a very poised isolation play starting from the top of the circle, and twirling past her defender for a bounce goal inside. Redwood squeeked out a response from their starting midfielder as she worked inside, outside, and back in again for the Giant’s first goal. The game went stale for a few minutes as Amador had difficulties with their transition. However, Mayo bullied in a a goal like a Rhino! Senior Ford deftly rolled the crease, added a stutter step, and was quickly past her shadow for a goal inside. Defense came to life with a turnover that transitioned to Shiblaq. A yellow card against Shiblaq’s defender brought her charging into the center where she was fouled. A quick strike from the penalty line brought Amador to a commanding 7-1 lead. On the following sequence Johnson rolled the crease then worked the interior for a savvy goal. Defense went to work against the Giants. Lemelin jumped out of goal to claim a loose ball but an unlucky call put her in a 2 vs 1 goalie situation that Redwood capitalized on. Manos responded with a strong drive to claim a shooting space violation and penalty shot for goal. Nimmo contributed on a crease roll and bounce shot that dribbled casually into the back of the net. The Dons comfortably entered half with an 11-2 lead. Redwood claimed the draw and fired away, only to be denied by Lemelin. Another loose ball battle by Lemelin saw her victorious and able to transition to Bayani. There was a clean transfer to Mayo who then fed Racer for the goal. Amador was a wall with clean defense against Redwood. The Giant’s persistence placed them on the penalty line only to be denied a shot. Amador returned to offense with Riddle putting up a penalty goal. The Dons then remained patient attempting to execute a clean offensive set. The ball was rotating but no clear shooting lanes were developing. Their patience was rewarded as Shiblaq converted a penalty shot for a shooting space violation. Despite good position defensively a sphere call against the Dons allowed Redwood to claim a penalty goal to bring the game to 13-4. Defensive chaos temporarily ensued after a Redwood draw win. K.Sweeney strained herself for a deflection and ground ball recovery to send the offense on their way. On the next defensive stand Mayo deftly retreated and claimed a charge call against Redwood. Mayo then quickly ran the middle of the field and fed a stalking Murphy in the wing. Murphy rolled to center and claimed a strong goal. In the midfield Bayani fought for the ball and was rewarded after being sent to the ground by the Giants. Bayani transferred to Smith who outpaced her defender for another goal. M.Sweeney closed the scoring for an 18-4 victory. Although Mayo’s scoring ability is undeniable, Amador’s strength has been its ability to score from multiple players. Teams are having a difficult time keying into any one player. This was evident as twelve different players put up goals. Defensively, the team is starting to switch faster and with more confidence.

Amador’s skill will need to be on full display come Friday night against Carondelet. The Cougars will be coming off a challenging win against Monte Vista, but also a heartbreaking loss against Acalanes. Carondelet also travels strong, so please come out and support our girls!

Vs California 9-10 L

Typically the rain is our domain. Amador Valley girls Lacrosse can typically use the adverse weather to it’s advantage. This night proved to be a little more difficult. California initially claimed the first draw but eventually turned it over. With the ball in hand Mayo worked her way into an excellent shot for the first goal of the night. California would begin a long drawn out slug fest that saw both teams trading scores through the first half. California took their first lead at 10:22, 2-3. Amador quickly responded on a Mayo isolation play to tie the match. Lemelin went on to deny California three times on a single trip before turning it over. Amador had a rocky transition past midfield but was able to get Sweeney onto the penalty line to take a 4-3 lead. California worked some magic to score while being down a player for a yellow card violation. Sweeney responded with an excellent feed to Mayo to take a 5-4 lead prior to half. Out of the break Amador appeared energetic and pushed to a 7-4 lead, before California slowly clawed back two goals. Sweeney charged down the center of the field with Mayo on her wing. A nice quick pass pulled the defender away just enough for Mayo to make the catch and score. Shiblaq added to her tally from the penalty line for her first hat trick of the season. California’s top midfielder went to work on the defense rallying her team for the tie. Then the heart break goal with two minutes in regulation put California on top 9-10. With two minutes remaining, and the draw in hand, California played a shrewd game of keep away. Amador created four opportunities but all were deemed fouls and closed the game in California’s favor. A very tough match up against an incredible rival. I believe the team will look forward to another opportunity to compete against this very good California squad.
