Girls Soccer athletic registration participation is currently 56%. This creates a deficit of $10,900 to make up. If you have not done so, please pay your Athletic Registration of $450 per player. You can visit the School Activity Desk or pay online at https://amador.futurefund.com/store/campaigns/7205.

Your Athletic Registration’ covers Coaches and your portion of the Athletic Director, it does not cover all the costs necessary to run the program. Any short fall in Athletic Registration must be covered by the Teams fundraising amount and directly cuts into their ability to build the program. Let’s get this number above 90%.

An updated copy of your financial scorecard and income statement are available at http://teampages.com/clubs/4157/pages/116610 (login required)

All money collected for Athletic Registration will be paid directly to AVHS.

January 17th brought relief from the rain at Monte Vista High School.
It also brought some scoring on both sides, and the in between was a struggle for control, more cleanly handled by the home team, The Mustangs.
The Dons arrived with a few players in plain clothes who wouldn’t play tonight. Senior GoalKeeper Brooke Delaney would be solo in the net tonight without her fellow senior Alvarez-Walls, out with illness. Attacking line would be a shorter list, as Junior A. Jones and Sophomores K. Mayo and N. Marceno were banged up from SRV game. Nevertheless, they’d battle a good side in MVHS, who last year graduated an exceptional class of players in ’18 and left the reigns to their underclassmen. Rumor had it they were still a force to be reckoned with… and with great skills.

The game was off and running and in the first half, Monte Vista was quick and technically sound, and Amador was working to keep them at bay. Monte Vista created a corner kick that morphed into a PK and their first goal was secured. They continued to push our defensive unit and midfields, and eventually scored 3 goals in the first half. AVHS pushed back, with fleeting moments for our forward lines to goal. Kate Reedy capitalized on a high bouncing ball to hammer one in for AVHS making the halftime score 3-1.

Second half , the weather remained cool and without rain, thank goodness, yet MV would rain on our team, to a degree where you had to give credit to our opponents. As much as the Dons fought to capitalize on the attacks to goal, the home team was a good one tonight and their attacking was methodical and patient. As Amador won control, MV was on our heels and forcing a turn over more often than not. At one point, The Dons pressed, finding some looseness in The Mustangs defense, and a beautiful set of passes brought a chance for Penny Murphy to hammer a volley home for a Amador goal! The second half would end with a score of 7 MonteVista to Amador 2.

Something to note though throughout the game: Although without her classmate to support her, Brooke Delaney made some fantastic saves; off the feet of attacking fast breaking opponents , diving saves that were surely into the net otherwise, far reaching saves at the corner post ( knocking the ball wide), and some high balls that were difficult against the lights and night sky. Tonight was Brooke Delaney’s night of game management- staying in there when the opponent was relentless. Congrats to the many saves on Brooke’s list tonight.

The San Ramon Valley and AVHS Girls Soccer teams consistently worked thru the storm, sleeting rain, winds and their gusts, to the very end- with virtually no rest from the elements.
The night game was light in attendance tho spirited AVHS’ers cheered on their players. San Ramon Valley was quick to come out and pressure quickly, gaining a corner kick. San Ramon captured the opportunity in the AVHS end and scored quickly making it 1-0 at the 32 minute of the game.
Play continued with AVHS looking confidant with team play, passing balls and control, though SRV pressured and held the ball, attacking methodically time after time, until AV made some defensive errors and the opponent scored with 10 minutes remaining- and then at the 7 minute mark! The score would be 3-0 by halftime. But between those defining goals , AVHS had moments when we secured the ball, and got crosses off, and shots on goal, yet SRV keeper kept them in play and opponents seemed unraveled by the attacks. WE couldn’t shake them. AVHS players tried to string passes together consistently but one would go awry to start SRV off again in control!
Throughout this game, although SRV made efforts and capitalized, our goalkeepers held & had 7 shots/saves in the first half, several that were destined to the net. In the 2nd half, SRV players came out with less zest and intensity, and their shooting/attacking slowed, which decreased the total of AVHS keeper activity to 4. A few of those were tough saves to make in the driving rain- a bright spot in this dismal RAIN.
Second half was just as many back and forth possessions as the 1st, and although it seemed that SRV had "won " the first half with their capitalizing on errors, the second half was up for grabs. AVHS kept playing. In fact, right until the very end when shots on goal to SRV net may have been fruitful with 16 minutes left, then another at 9 minutes to go, and yet one more at the 8th minute mark. It would not be; the 3-0 1st half score would remain. Next up is Monte Vista, Thursday night at MV.

No loss of love here, it’s always a battle; AVHS vs FHS Girls Soccer. But drizzling rain made it more interesting for certain. Adding to the interest was that many of these players play on club teams together so know each other well. Opposing coaches also know them! So it seemed strategy of attacking and defense, from the outsider, might play a huge roll tonight.
Amador Dons came out with energy and connection, looking to string passes together to penetrate the backs of Foothill. Falcons also came to play, utilizing their DF backs ability to serve 40 yard balls to their speedy forwards. In between, the Amador midfielders collapsed upon the FHS center players to dispossess them of the ball, and on many occasions attacked quickly together, though unable to pass thru the center back or keep the ball on frame in shooting. FHS also attempted to gain possession with their tall strong midfielder, and utilizing outside halves but no team was the certain winner of the cool rainy first half.
Second half, the Dons picked up pace and played their game, yet the physicality rose and the battle was heating up. (FYI: Fans continued to be cold and wet!) Play continued to be back and forth, not one team winning entirety of possession. Until a quick FHS run out of the midfield positioned a lone dribbler just about the 40 yard line, who looked up to catch sight of a spot behind the Dons GK; this long arching ball to the back netting made this hard fought game showing a score 1-0, Foothill.
Although Amador never quit, the game stayed pretty much the same with hard knocks, pushing and pulling when the teams could, just to get the upper edge. Foothill continued the long balls from their center back as a primary attack, and Amador stayed true to teamwork and hoping to prove successful with the passing game that has rewarded them in games before. FHS GK made some pickup saves thwarting Amador scoring, but the Dons really didn’t test the keeper like they have in other games- it was just that type of game. It was a tough back and forth game, that felt unfair in its scoring, as the Dons really deserved the ‘W’ when it came to ‘who should have won’… more soccer play and possession, rather than a lone shot at goal. Luck sometimes is at play in sports.
In the end, Foothill held out to keep the 1-0 score. Next game, Cal High, HOME Jan. 10, 4 PM, 6PM Varsity.
